History
In 1938, Global Design Technologies (GDT) commenced trading as the Deutsch Company in Los Angeles, California and soon established itself as a premier global manufacturer of mechanically attached tube, pipe, and cable fittings systems. These connector systems are used worldwide in many high technology applications including aircraft hydraulics and electric utility distribution substations.
In the late 1960s the company designed and patented a permanent coupling system, including fittings and tooling, which provided notable advantages to competing systems and the product soon became the standard in permanently swaged couplings throughout the aerospace industry.
In the 1970s, the company licensed its technology to the newly formed company Permaswage in Paris, France. Permaswage was formed exclusively in order to exploit opportunities for permanently swaged couplings in the burgeoning European aerospace market. After commencing trading, Permaswage developed its own manufacturing and design capabilities to better serve the needs of its European customers.
In the 1980s, DMC penetrated the worldwide commercial and military aircraft sales market driven by the globalisation of OEMs; Nihon Deutsch and Deutsch Dagan were established as independent distributors to serve the Aerospace and Defence markets of Japan and Israel, respectively. Throughout this geographic expansion, DMC continued to innovate and added several new product lines, many of which were adapted by PSAS.
In the 1990s, DMC diversified into manufacturing fixed couplings for non-Aerospace markets, mainly in the Power industry with new products PowerLok and Copper GroundLok.
In 2005, in simultaneous management buy-outs of the Deutsch Metal Company and Permaswage, GDT was established to provide a unified company to meet the needs of the increasingly global markets in which GDT operates.
Today
Today GDTs products can be found on nearly every major civil and military aerospace program and in a growing number of electricity substations throughout the US. GDT continues to evolve and through a dedicated R&D team to find new applications and improvements to its key swaging technologies. It now has expanded to serve not only Aerospace, but also key markets in the Defense, Power, and Industrial sectors. Constant innovation has been the trademark of the company and the company is always eager to work with customers to find new solutions to any coupling problem in the fluid handling sector.
